Ralph Sampson hasn’t been the greatest father in the world. He’s had to pay some fines for non-payment of childsupport, an indefensible crime in my book. But, it looks like he did pass on some good genes to his kids. His son, Ralph Sampson III, is a freshman in Alabama. He’s 6’10”. A 6’10” freshman!…
This is a pretty interesting read from the N&O about how Raymond Felton fixed his jump shot over the summer. He practices hard on his form, moving his elbow in closer to his body so that his forearm was vertical instead of across his face. That change to a more classic form seems to have…
In my quest to post about every one of Ken Pomeroy’s posts, I’m gonna dissect his new stat, Total Rebounding. This statistic is a sum of a team’s offensive and defensive rebounding efficiency, meaning a ratio of the rebounds they get versus their opponents. I’ve always heard and believed that strong rebounding is a key…
Ken Pomeroy has an interesting (as usual) post up comparing Sheldon Williams’ numbers this year to Emeka Okafor’s last year. Surprisingly, Williams is pretty comparable. Actually, it’s not that surprising to folks who know the ACC. Williams is good and is having a good year so far. A key difference to me is that Okafor…
Chuck Amato has finally come forward to talk about his three top assistants leaving for other schools. His response was less than unexpected – everything’s OK! Chuck says it’s a compliment that other schools wanted to hire his coaches. That’s true, but I’m not so sure it’s complimentary that they all left. OK, people. Move…
You may have noticed that NC State’s recent skid has coincided with reduced playing time and production from point guard Tony Bethel. Bethel started the season hot, but has failed to score in the last three games. Well, now we know why. He has colitis, an inflammation of colon that gives you pretty severe diarrhea.…
If you’ve been reading my site, you probably picked up that I like Bill Simmons’ writing. He’s informative, different and damn funny. Except for one thing – the recent successes of the Patriots and Red Sox have mad him an insufferable prick at times. Smarmy and sarcastic is great when you are pulling for losers.…
Mark Wells was the point guard 22 years ago on the Chaminade team that pulled off the most unlikely upset in college basketball history, beating #1 Virginia. That win over Ralph Sampson and the rest of the Cavaliers proved to be the highlight of a pretty sad life for Wells. He was found shot to…
When Duke plays Princeton tonight, they will be celebrating Cameron Indoor’s sixty-fifth birthday. Duke hosted (and beat) Princeton in the first game in Cameron on January 6, 1940. As part of the celebration, Duke will wear throwback jerseys, shoot only two-handed set shots and won’t allow any black players to suit up.
Herman Veal Chops (still my favorite blog name) has a post up comparing Gary William’s use (misuse?) of Mike Jones to similar problems with Saruna Jasikevicius. It’s an interesting point. Jones was a McD’s AA, looks very athletic and appears to be the best shooter on the team. I have to assume that he has…
