  • This is a good review of a book with a fascinating premise. The author argues that despite claims to the contrary, professional soccer is more capitalistic than American pro sports. He makes some pretty good points. I think it would be great MLB and the NBA added the concept of relegation.

  • Pat Forde has a great article up on Coach K’s flirtation with the NBA.

  • Gregg Doyel makes an interesting point. He says that should Krzyzewski leave Duke, they can use UNC’s struggles after Dean left as a “what not to do” guideline. That means they should do a real search for a coach and not just take the top assistant (Johnny Dawkins) right away.

  • David Teel celebrates Virginia Tech’s entry into the ACC. He points out that in the Sears Directory’s Cup standings, Tech would have finished last in the ACC each of the last ten years. Nice.

  • The Insiders has a breakdown of the top wide receiver groups in the ACC.

  • Gregg Doyel has a nice article up about how Herb Sendek has NC State’s basketball program in fine shape. Gregg thinks State could step up and win the ACC next year.

  • The Insiders list the top 100 basketball recruits for 2005. Six have already committed to ACC teams.

  • It seems that Roy Williams has done the obvious and rebuilt UNC’s famous family tree. The basketball alumni are coming back to campus again after a few of years of not feeling welcomed by Coach Doh. Having all of those guys come back can do nothing but good. My only question is this – Makhtar…

  • Tony Kornheiser writes an article making the same basic point as my Marion Jones article. With all the smoke around her, can there really be no fire?

  • ESPN is running a poll to find the greatest games they’ve shown in the past 25 years. Their list includes four ACC games. For me, the greatest game was that UVA – Florida State football game. It still gives me chills thinking about that fourth quarter. I’m a little surprised it made their list, as…
