  • As everyone predicted, the Lakers, like the domain of the fabled king Ozymandias, are crumbling. Phil Jackson is out, Shaq is demanding a trade and Kobe filed for free agency. Kobe might well be back, but he could choose to go anywhere. They may have a completely new team next year.

  • Kevin Donahue of Fanblog.com says Virginia has the best helmet. Tough to say who is best, but I think we can agree that Duke and Maryland have the worst.

  • Ken Pomeroy has yet another great statistical analysis of the college game. He shows that total points are on the decline while 3 point attempts are on the rise.

  • Former NC State star Clyde “The Glide” Austin was sentenced to 17½ years in prison for his role in a Ponzi scheme. It’s sad to see how some people squander the opportunities granted them by their talents.

  • Who would you rather have, Kobe or Shaq? The Lakers seem to be saying Kobe. I would assume that’s due to Shaq’s age, an old 32, and recent conditioning. (BTW, thanks to the DBR for great links today – I’m basically copying their selections.)

  • Now this is a nutty rumor. Spurrier to UNC. Sounds crazy to me, but people keep talking about it, even the The Chronicle at Duke. I have a hard time believing that a guy who still seems to love Duke so much would coach at UNC. But then, Spurrier loves to agitate, doesn’t he?
