This is actually pretty funny. The N&O asked some local ad agencies to come up with some new logos for the ACC (the old one with the string of contiguous states won’t work after BC joins next year). What they came up with is pretty nice. See if you can detect the thinly veiled synicism.
The marketing weasels around the ACC are working on how to best sell the league to the new schools and vice-versa. From the sound of things, it won’t be too tough at Virginia Tech, where they’ve been pressing their nose against the ACC’s front window for decades. At BC, it’ll be a little tougher, what…
I just read this article out of Cleveland’s Free Times. I’m not clear on exactly what point the guy was trying to make, but basically he was tying the reponse to the Boozer situation to racism. It’s a crap article. Basically, it reads like the guy wrote it ahead of time and just waited for…
One of Virginia’s top incoming football players was arrested last weekend in Charlottesville. Evidently he was caught drinking beer and then fled before being caught and charged with some misdemeanors. The arrest also brought to late some possible previous infractions. It sounds like Ahmad Bradshaw may never become a University of Virginia student, much less…
This is a longer and better article on the Triangle Pigskin Preview
Lance Armstrong had an incredible day today. He completely dominated the time trial up L’Alpe D’Huez, beating the second place finisher, Jan Ullrich by 61 seconds. Armstrong actually passed Tour #2 guy Ivan Basso, who started out two minutes ahead of Lance. BTW, if you didn’t know, the entire time trial was up a mountain.…
If you haven’t heard about it, there’s a guy named Ken Jennings who’s been dominating Jeopardy lately. He’s won over 35 times in a row! Bill Simmons gives his thoughts. I heard of this guy and happened to catch the show on a week or two ago. He DESTROYED the two other people. Before Final…
At the Triangle Pigskin Preview, a press conference with all the triangle football coaches, UNC AD Dick Baddour said he was happy with John Bunting and the job he’s been doing. That’s good for Coach Bunting, but then, what else could Baddour say? ADs always say that sort of thing, particularly before the start of…
The NCAA is closer to clamping down on some of the excesses of recruiting. Although I hate to see the rulebook get thicker and thicker, I think something must be done. This is a good step. For a rundown of some of what they are fighting, read my article here. Scroll down to the part…
Devin Smith played most of last season for Virginia with a herniated disk in his back. He never even practiced after December, but yet remained UVA’s best player. He has had surgery now and appears to be healing quickly. Who knows how good he could be if fully healthy.
