  • State Propositions 15-Year-Old

    June 24, 2004
    Quick Links

NC State offered a basketball scholarship to 15-year-old recruit Eric Wallace of Kernersville, NC. It’s pretty young to commit to a guy, but that’s the way the game works now, especially for programs like State who can’t always wait on a top talent. The flip side is that he can’t sign a letter until he’s…

  • Duke & UNC for UNC

    June 24, 2004
    Quick Links

The Washington Wizards traded Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laettner and the #5 pick in tonight’s draft to the Dallas Mavericks for Antawn Jamison. Sounds like a lot to give up, but then the Wiz would have blown their draft pick anyway. I wonder if Stack and Laettner will play poker on the flight to Dallas?

  • Nicer Turtles

Maryland has released their plan for improving fan behavior at games. The plan was created by a student task force and includes only voluntary compliance. I think that’s a good first step – college students should be able to police themselves.

  • Melvin Waits For Draft

    June 23, 2004
    Quick Links

Marcus Melvin is waiting for tomorrow’s NBA draft. He won’t be surprised if he isn’t drafted, but he still thinks he can can make it. I’m not sure what I think. He’s very skilled, but I’m not quite sure he has NBA-caliber talent. If he makes it, it’ll be as a glue guy like former…

  • Protecting Kids During Recruiting

    June 23, 2004
    Quick Links

This is an interesting article about a camp run by the NBA Players Association for top high school ballers. The camp has sessions where they try to teach the players’ parents to stay actively involved in the recruiting process. It’s a great message, but I wonder why it’s coming from an NBA-based organization and not…

  • Jason Williams Still Trying

    June 23, 2004
    Quick Links

Jason (Jay) Williams is still fighting to recover from his motorcycle accident injuries and return to the NBA. I wish him luck, but I’m pretty skeptical.

  • Sports Guy’s NBA Trade Rankings – Part 2

    June 23, 2004
    Quick Links

Like the title says, this is Part 2 of the Sports Guy’s NBA player rankings. BTW, The Sports Guy now has his own page on espn.com.

  • The USADA Details Evidence On Montgomery’s Doping

    June 22, 2004
    Quick Links

This LA Times article (registration required) lists much of the USADA’s case against Tim Montgomery. It sounds like they have the goods on him and it’s only a matter of time. I wonder what Marion Jones thinks about all of this.

  • Thoughts On The US Open

    June 22, 2004
    General

The Goose Retief Goosen was spectacular on Sunday in winning his second US Open Championship. I’ve read articles that said he was too robotic or that Mickelson gave him the tournament, but I don’t buy it. On brutally tough day, one of the toughest in US Open history, Goosen kept his composure and his lead.…

  • Sports Guy’s NBA Trade Rankings

    June 22, 2004
    Quick Links

This is always one of my favorite Sports Guy articles – ranking NBA players by their trade value. I laughed out loud at the Vin Baker joke. This is actually Part 1. Part 2 will be out tomorrow, I guess.
