You have to love preseason optimism. You also have to love when teammates pull for each other. Sometimes it can go a bit far though. Check out these quotes.
The first is from Julius Hodge about point guard Tony Bethel, who transfered to NC State from Georgetown. Bethel had to sit out last season, but could practice.

Really, one of the big reasons I wanted to come back and be a part of the backcourt is Tony Bethel. Even though he didn’t play (last year), he could have been a top three point guard in the ACC.

Wait, it gets better. This quote is from Virginia big man Elton Brown on incoming freshman point guard Sean Singletary:

Sean will be one of the top three guards in this league. I don’t think he is one of the best point guards, he is one of the best point guards.

Uh, fellas? It’s been a long summer, so maybe you forgot, but the ACC actually has some pretty good points. Perhaps you recall Chris Paul, everyone’s choice for preseason national player of the year? Or maybe Jarret Jack, who led his team to the national championship game last year? Does John Gilchrist, MVP of the ACC Tournament, ring a bell? OK, well then, how about Raymond Felton, who led the ACC in assists and was last year’s preseason ACC player of the year? Yeah, those guys are all pretty good. And of course, he’s gone now, but Chris Duhon played a little last year; you can find him in the NBA now.
