Speaking of ACC coaching trees…
Bobby Gonzalez may be the hottest young coach in America. He has built a very competitive program at Manhattan, and at the same time, built his reputation. As Gregg Doyel reports, Gonzalez missed out on a couple of openings this past year, but you can bet that won’t happen again next year.
With former boss Pete Gillen on the hot seat at Virginia, is there any chance Gonzalez could end up in Charlottesville? It depends on whether Gillen does well enough this year and whether Gonzo would be willing to take the job from his former mentor. My hunch is that he wouldn’t do that if the opportunity arose. Gillen is really the only ACC coach in a tenuous situation, so don’t expect to see Gonzalez in the ACC too soon.
